John Kippenberger
Fmr CEO, Manuka Health NZ Ltd

John Kippenberger is an experienced CEO and MD specialising in company growth and turnarounds in fast moving consumer goods across a range of international markets. 

Prior to joining Manuka Health in February 2016, John was the Managing Director and part owner of Premier Beehive NZ, the high growth NZ FMCG business specialising in quality food products (Beehive, Premier and Freedom Farm brands). At this time John was also a board member of the New Zealand Food and Grocery Council and continues to hold investments in other food companies. In Australia, John spent four years as CEO of the Australian meat and dairy business of George Weston Foods Ltd. 

After joining Manuka Health in 2016 John has built a high-performing executive team which has driven strong sales growth through a strategy of investing in focused innovation, exciting brand execution and channel expansion in key markets. The company enjoys a pure focus on delivering quality end-to-end bee products expertise and in the past 2 years has made substantial progress in building out its own Apiculture operations. Together with the company’s long and deep beekeeper supplier partnerships this combined platform delivers quality honey to meet Manuka Health’s strong sales growth.

Having sold the company in 2019 and completed the transition to the new ownership John has recently left Manuka Health to focus on governance roles and further private equity investments.

Peter Chrisp
Chief Executive, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise

Peter is the Chief Executive of NZTE, New Zealand’s international business development agency. The purpose of NZTE is to “Grow companies internationally – bigger, better, faster – for the good of New Zealand”.

Prior to this, Peter spent 20 years in the engineering, manufacturing, and pulp and paper industries in Kawerau, Oslo, and Sydney. He worked in a global role as Senior Vice President, Norske Skog Paper International, in Oslo, covering their operations in South America, Asia, Middle East, and Europe. He also worked in Sydney as Regional President for Norske Skog Australasia.

Board roles have included the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and the Australian Pulp and Paper Innovation Council.

Marijana Brajkovich
Director, Kumeu River Wines

As a member of the Brajkovich family, owners of Kumeu River Wines, there isn’t much that Marijana Brajkovich doesn’t know about successfully taking New Zealand wine and particularly Chardonnay to the international market. You could say it’s in her blood!

Add to that a degree in accounting, a bachelor of commerce and a successful early career in international hospitality sales and marketing and you have a business professional with a breadth and depth of knowledge second to none.

At Kumeu River, the Brajkovich family are focused on, and are internationally recognised as producers of world class Chardonnay.

Hon David Parker
Minister for Trade and Export Growth

David has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Otago. He was a litigation and managing partner in law firm Anderson Lloyd and was a co-founder of the Dunedin Community Law Centre.

David is an experienced CEO and company director in a range of industries and has experienced both success and failure. He was involved in a number of start-up businesses in the agri-biotechnology field including A2 Corporation, and BLIS Technologies which he managed from start-up to the main board of the NZX.

He held various Ministerial portfolios in the last Labour-led Government including Attorney-General, Energy, Climate Change, Transport, Land Information and State Services. In 2008 he was named by the Listener magazine as Environmentalist of the Year for his work as Minister of Energy and Climate Change. He pioneered New Zealand’s emissions trading scheme, then described by many as the most significant environmental reform in NZ for decades. In opposition his roles included Deputy Leader of the New Zealand Labour Party and spokesperson on Finance, Trade and Export Growth.

After the 2017 election, David was appointed Attorney-General, Minister for Economic Development, Environment, Trade and Export Growth, and Associate Minister of Finance. He maintains strong interests in the protection of civil liberties, as well as economic and environmental policy. David pursues policies which both enhance economic growth and address the growing extremes between rich and poor in New Zealand, while protecting the environment.

Mike Bignell
Partner, PwC New Zealand

Mike knows that succeeding on the international stage can be challenging. In leading PwC New Zealand’s emerging business team, Mike is renowned for providing pragmatic and commercial advice across a range of issues to help drive international growth and success for PwC’s clients. Mike’s experience working with a wide variety of clients and across the broader PwC network allows him to provide advice quickly and effectively.

He brings a strong commercial perspective to the broad range of issues faced by businesses operating internationally. His specialties lie in structuring a company’s commercial and tax presence offshore and also includes strategic business advice, international tax considerations and transfer pricing obligations. Mike’s governance experience also allows him to provide insight on how a board or an independent party can assist in navigating the complex world of international business.

He also believes that while managing tax issues is important in order to operate internationally, understanding what government agencies can assist with, what supply chain options exist and how to fund expansion and manage treasury are in his experience, often overlooked.
